I want to make it clear that this is a statement about government intrusion, not about folks who choose for themselves to wear a helmet. It is also intended to illustrate that there's not only one side to the argument, ostensibly that helmets will always improve one's chances of surviving an accident. That is utter bunk. First, not all injury or death is the result of the head being involved during a violent crash. Likewise, many accidents that do involve the rider's head are made worse by the weight and tightened strap around one's throat. What might be a simple whiplash type of injury can easily be exaggerated by the weight of the helmet to make it a spinal cord injury. While head injuries without a helmet certainly can be devastating and deadly, the same accident can cause quadriplegic-causing injuries with the helmet on.

The graphic depicts a headless ghost rider whose severed skull was made such by a tree branch working its way under the strap holding the government-mandated helmet tight around his throat. As counter-intuitive as this depiction may seem to those who have not researched the issue, this is the other side of the argument that you never hear, and that state governments refuse to consider. I am responsible for my own safety. The government is responsible for the safety of the country. Leave me alone Uncle Sam!

You're quite ignorant if you think motorcycle helmets should be mandatory, but not auto helmets. Motorcycle helmet law states have very little difference in death and injury. Only attention of drivers and riders makes a difference.
